Diamond Delights Espresso · Long Beach, WA Data from Google · 4.4 ★ (430+ reviews)

At 1105 Pacific Ave S in Long Beach, Washington, there is a drive-thru espresso stand that looks pretty simple. It’s not a big café with exposed brick and a lot of vinyl records. People pull up to the small coffee window, which can be seen from the road, rolls down their windows, and orders drinks with names like “Fluffy Bunny” and “Atomic Bomb.” It’s open as early as 6 a.m. Still, this small business has over 430 Google reviews and a 4.4-star rating, which are hard to ignore in a beach town where there isn’t much competition for coffee and customers are very loyal.

When you drink Diamond Delights Espresso, it doesn’t try to be something it’s not. The shop says it makes drinks by hand with beans from Columbia River Coffee Roasters. It also has house-made signature drinks, energy drinks with more than 50 flavor options, and something called Tiki Breeze, which is a plant-based option that shows the shop is at least somewhat aware of where the beverage industry is going. There are more items on the menu than most people would think, like breakfast sandwiches, bagels, bubble tea with tapioca and jellos, and loose-leaf teas. For first-timers, this is the kind of spread that shocks them.

Almost every good review, and there are a lot of them, talks about the baristas. A Maryland visitor who comes to Long Beach often says she’s been to other places but won’t go back. A woman from Ocean Park who came down every morning just for a “Twisted Sister” said that the baristas “always send off great vibes.” Another reviewer, who said she used to be a barista and even took classes in Seattle on how to make good espresso, said these shots were the best she’d ever had. That’s not just a compliment. You’d notice something like that.

There’s also warmth in the little things. Someone came by with their dog on their birthday. The baristas made do with some whipped cream and treat cake. Even though it was unplanned and took an extra 90 seconds, it still shows up in reviews years later. A barista gave treats to another reviewer’s dog in the middle of their order, without being asked. These are small moments. But taken together, they show why some customers keep coming back for more than one visit or even more than one vacation.

Still, the picture isn’t glowing all over. Some reviews are really worrying, and you should pay attention to them instead of ignoring them. Some people said the espresso was weak, watery, or didn’t taste the same every time. One person said their latte tasted like a “French press or poorly pulled shots.” Someone else got a quad-shot white chocolate mocha, but she thought it was more like drip coffee. Pricing has also caused some disagreement. Some reviewers said that $7 to $10 for a single drink seemed high for a drive-thru stand, but others didn’t seem to mind, saying that the value was good for the quality they got. It’s possible that this place’s consistency depends a lot on who’s working that day. This is the case with most small coffee shops, but that doesn’t make it any less important to bring to your attention.

Angie, the owner, seems to personally respond to most negative reviews by offering remakes, apologies, and invitations to come back. That kind of interest is important. It means that they are paying attention, not just to the good feedback but also to the times when things didn’t go as planned. From the outside, it’s harder to tell if that really leads to changes in how things are done, but the intention is clear.

Reviews say that Diamond Delights Espresso is a great place to stop for coffee on the Long Beach Peninsula, whether you’re going to the coast, coming back from camping, or just making the long drive back to Portland. It’s reliable most of the time, really warm when it’s at its best, and worth the five-minute detour off the main road.
