Does Burger King Have Iced Coffee? Yes — and It’s Better Than You’d Expect

When someone is in the mood for coffee, they don’t immediately think of Burger King. Perhaps the onion rings are the source of the Whopper’s flame-grilled aroma that permeates the parking lot. In a place where beef is the main attraction, coffee seems like an afterthought. However, there is an iced coffee on the BK Café menu that has been there for longer than most people seem to realize. There are actually a few different varieties of this beverage.

The basic question has a yes answer. Iced coffee is available at Burger King. Depending on the location, the BK Café line offers plain black coffee, mocha iced coffee, and vanilla iced coffee. The majority of high-end coffee chains, including Starbucks, use 100% Arabica beans in their production. People are often surprised by that detail. Most casual coffee drinkers would be surprised to learn how much Arabica, the smoother, less bitter variety, affects the final flavor.

When it comes to pricing, things really start to get interesting. The cost of a small iced coffee is about $1. The large costs about $1.99. For comparison, the price of a similar drink at Dunkin’ or Starbucks might be three or four times higher.

The comparison between a national coffee chain that charges five dollars for what is essentially cold coffee with cream and syrup and a nearby burger chain that sells something similar for less than two dollars seems a little ridiculous. Perhaps the coffee industry has just taught consumers to pay more without making too many inquiries.

Cold foam was added to the menu in the middle of 2025. Online reactions to Burger King’s covert introduction of a lineup of iced coffees topped with cold foam were, at best, perplexing. The texture was described as pleasant, the sweetness as “balanced,” and the cold foam as a truly pleasant touch. It was better than anticipated and reasonably priced, so there was little reason to be disappointed, according to one food writer who tried it. It’s an honest endorsement, but it doesn’t ring true.

There is a warning that should be noted. The consistency isn’t always trustworthy. Those who have worked at Burger King locations claim that the iced coffee is frequently prepared in large quantities ahead of the morning shift and kept in the refrigerator for the day. While some places use a creamier shake base, others use half-and-half and flavoring syrup. Depending on what you were hoping for, the outcome can differ significantly between restaurants, which can be either subtly annoying or charming in its own way. It’s not the type of coffee where a skilled barista calibrates each cup according to a set recipe. This fast-food coffee is prepared in the same kitchen that makes Whoppers.

Burger King doesn’t seem to be trying to compete with specialty coffee shops because it is aware that it isn’t. The person who is already in the drive-through, has already ordered a sandwich, and wants something cold and caffeinated to go with it appears to be the target audience for the BK Café line. That’s a real customer with a real need, and the iced coffee makes sense in that particular circumstance. It’s smooth enough, sweet enough (some people think it’s a little too sweet), and inexpensive enough that there’s virtually no risk when ordering one.

Due in part to the high coffee margins and in part to the value of morning traffic, fast food chains have been increasing their coffee offerings for years. Although Burger King has been running its own version of the same play, McDonald’s McCafé is the most well-known. It’s difficult to predict whether it will eventually play a larger role in the brand’s identity or remain a background menu item. As of right now, it is available, reasonably priced, and most likely better than the people who pass it every morning have any reason to suspect.
